UK's biggest bookmaker William Hill has agreed to pay $14.25 million for buying the third US betting business. Brandywine Bookmaking LLC, a land-based sports betting business operating in Nevada and Delaware, will become a part of the William Hill plc group.
William Hill operates across the United Kingdom, offering sports-betting and gaming in 2,350 licensed betting offices. This is the third acquisition of the company within a month, following the purchase of two Nevada land-based sports betting businesses: the American Wagering Inc and the Club Cal Neva Satellite Race and Sportsbook Division.
The London-based bookmaker paid for the acquisition of the two American sports betting businesses nearly $39 million, hoping to gain business in the United States and calling the acquisition “the start of our investment in the US market”.
Brandywine Bookmaking operates 16 sports-books in Nevada under the Lucky's brad and one in St Kitts in the Caribbean.
Ralph Topping, William Hill chief executive, said: “It's the right time to establish yourself in the States. It's a country getting to grips with its regulation. It will take time but you need a position here.”
“Brandywine will give William Hill a leading position in the US land-based sports betting market,” he added.
