PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Continues To Break Records
added on 2011-01-11 05:24:34

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament has set another unofficial record. The event has attracted more entrants than ever – 1,560 players came for the annual poker event at the luxurious Atlantis Resort & Casino in the Bahamas, breaking the previous record by about 30 entrants.

Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein, Joe Hachem, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Victor Ramdin were among the players who entered the $15.13 million prize pool event!

Eugene Katchalov ended up by outlasting the 38 players who risked $100,000 to pay the buy-in and won the first place prize of the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller event.
Katchalov played the heads up against Daniel Negreanu and had the luck of hitting some big hands against him. He finally pushed his career earnings over the $5.5 million mark.

Despite finishing second, Daniel Negreanu still achieved a significant performance. He became the all-time leading money winner for tournament poker (with over $14.1 million in live tournament winnings), surpassing Phil Ivey who held that mark.

Winning the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament represents Katchalov's biggest accomplishment, who already finds himself in the top 40 all-time money list after this victory. By the end of 2010, he made three World Series Of Poker final tables and he won the 2007 World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic. His total live tournament winnings exceed $5,300,000.

“I feel great about it because the competition was so tough. It brought out the best in me. It was tough because we’re best friends,” Katchalov said. “He knows more about my game than anyone else."

“He made my life a living hell,” Katchalov added. “He did not give away any chips and played very well from the short stack. I was fortunate.”

The final table results were as follows:
1. Eugene Katchalov $1,500,000;
2. Daniel Negreanu $1,000,000;
3. Bryn Kenney $643,000;
4. Nick Schulman $400,000;
5. Humberto Brenes $200,000.
