Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari has recently won his second WPT title the day when he celebrated his 32nd birthday and took home the $870,124 first place prize won at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic championship.
Esfandiari captured his first WPT title in 2004, at the LA Poker Classic and then, a few months later he won his first World Series of Poker bracelet as well. As of 2010, the Magician's live tournament winnings exceed $4,400,000. Now, he is one of the 12 players to have achieved this second win of the WPT title.
"I can't tell you how good it feels to be back," he said. "It's just amazing."
At the Five Diamond World Poker Classic championship, the Iranian-born player found himself amongst the chip leaders from the first day of the tournament, and entered the final table in fifth out of six in chips.
At the final table, Esfandiari fought against five talented poker players such as Vanessa Russo, Andrew Robl or John Racener.
Commenting on his return in poker, the winner said: “It doesn't feel good not to make a final table for seven years, but to make it and come back and win after the roller-coaster ride I had to go through tonight, feels pretty damn good.”
“You have to rely on your experience and I've got a lot of experience playing in these big tournaments,” he said.
The 438 players who entered the $10,000 buy-in WPT Five Diamond event at the luxurious Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, created a $4,248,600 prize pool. The final table results and payouts were as follows:
1st Antonio Esfandiari ($870,124)
2nd Andrew Robl ($549,003)
3rd Vanessa Rousso ($358,964)
4th John Racener ($232,271)
