Paddy Power, Ireland's largest bookmaker, was launched in 1988 by the merger of three existing Irish main street bookmakers. The company offers sports betting, online bingo, online casino games, online poker and spread betting, serving its customers through online and telephone channels.
The Irish Bookie has recently announced it will create over 1,400 new jobs in UK, Ireland and Australia, which will increase its employees base to 2,210. The decision is part of a major expansion of the company in these three countries by 2013.
Paddy Power intends to create an additional 810 new jobs in the United Kingdom for expanding its retail network, 500 in Ireland – located at the company's Tallaght head office in west Dublin in areas such as technology, risk management, online marketing and e-commerce - and 130 new posts in Australia, where Paddy Power enjoys a strong online presence.
According to Ireland's Minister for Enterprise Trade and Innovation, Batt O'Keeffe TD, Paddy Power's investment will mark a significant employment boost for west Dublin and for the entire country and it will generate additional tax revenues for the exchequer.
Paddy Power's Chief Executive Patrick Kennedy said their strategy is to “continue to seek opportunities through organic means, joint ventures, strategic partnerships and where the value and fit is right, through acquisitions.”
“We operate in highly competitive markets and it is essential that we remain competitive here out of Ireland in order to continue to expand this business and create more jobs,” he added.
