The Asian Pacific Poker Tour has recently crowned its first female poker champion at the Asian Pacific Poker Tour Cebu Main Event. Korean Young-Shin Im outlasted a total field of 236 players and won the Cebu Main Event, marking her fifth cash on the APPT in the last year and a half.
The runner-up of the event was decided after only two hours of heads-up play. For his efforts, the Australian Michael Fabiano took home the second place prize of PHP 3,660,000.
Although he was the chip leader of the final table, Kim Gap Young, Young-Shin's life partner, only managed to finish the third. Considering their relationship, special precautions were taken to prevent eventual complicity at the final table.
Young-Shin Im won her seat at the Asian Pacific Poker Tour by qualifying in a $22 tournament on PokerStars.net.
“I'm very excited and happy to be the first female champion of the APPT. My boyfriend made third place, so I am of course very happy for him too,” Young-Shin Im said after the win.
The APPT Cebu took place from 12th to 16th of November at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa Hotel . The 100,000 PHP (2,165 USD) buy-in created a total prize pool of PHP 21,518,480 (US $490,170).
