PokerStars.com will be hosting the Regional Championship of Online Poker, a new competition which consists of thirteen series of tournaments for different regions of the world. Each series will include 11 events. The 13 different geographically-targeted series will be held between the end of October and mid February 2011.
The first set of events will be the Russian championship. The 13 series will have different buy-ins in order to give more players the chance to compete in a tournament against players from their own region and to speak in their own language at the table.
The 13 sections are: are Russia, Nordic, Baltics, USA, Canada, Germanics, Asia Pacific, Mediterranean, UK & Ireland, Central and Eastern European, Latin American, Iberian, and Benelux.
The US Regional Championship of Online Poker will have the largest prize pool, $3.3 million from the total of $7 million that will be awarded across all regions.
“It's about national pride, winning big and proving that you are the best player in your region. And everyone can take part,” it is said in an official press release.
The 13 Regional Championships of Online Poker include players from:
Russian RCOOP – for players from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine & Uzbekistan.
Nordic RCOOP – for players from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Åland Islands, Faroe Islands & Greenland.
Baltics RCOOP - for players from Estonia, Lithuania & Latvia.
USA RCOOP - for players from USA, Virgin Island (US).
Canadian RCOOP - for players from Canada.
Germanics RCOOP - for players from Austria, Switzerland, Germany & Liechtenstein.
Asia Pacific RCOOP - for players from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Indonesia, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Cambodia, New Caledonia, Oman, Malaysia, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Guam, Peoples Democratic Republic of Lao, Sri Lanka, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Macau, Northern Mariana Islands, Nepal, Pakistan & East Timor.
