Macau Casinos - 40 percent Up In September Revenues
added on 2010-10-14 04:09:45

The Macau gambling market continued to consolidate its leading position and registered a $1.9 billion rise for the month of September 2010. The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has reported a 39.8% rise, compared to the same month last year, when the revenues reached only $1.35 billion.

In 2006 Macau became the world's premier gambling destination, overtaking Las Vegas and continuing to grow each year. The Statistic and Census Service DSEC announced the total number of visitor arrivals has reached to 2.36 million persons in August 2010, compared to an increase of 14.2% increase last year.

The Macau casino operators have particularly increased their revenue thanks to the high stakes gamblers, that boosted the number of Baccarat tables with minimum bets of 10,000 patacas or higher.

Despite the 40% increase in revenue, figures show a certain slow down in growth lately.
Macau is a special administrative region of China, the only region where gambling is allowed, that boasts 34 top casinos.

Commenting on the Macau's economy, Jonathan Galaviz, a gambling industry consultant for a major brokerage house, explained: “Asia’s macro-economic performance continues to be strong and Macau will benefit as long as this dynamic remains. There continues to be tremendous asset bubbles in the region. Hence, we are also cautious on Macau due to its sensitivity to what we see as an eventual Asia downturn sometime in 2011.”
