Scott Shelley is the amateur poker player from London who has just conquered his first World Series Of Poker final table. He managed to outlast a field of 582 players and won the GBP 1,075 buy-in World Series of Poker Europe event, which took place at London's Empire Casino. Shelley took home £133,857 in prize money.
Scott Shelley works as a customer support agent for PKR.com and he has won his seat to the event through a PKR.com employee only sit and go satellite. The 24 year-old Londoner won his first bracelet after defeating champion and double bracelet winner JP Kelley in the heads up game.
Kelly sat at the final table the third in chips. If he had won, he would have become the youngest player to have ever won three WSOP bracelets, breaking Phil Ivey's record and the first player to have won two WSOPE bracelets.
Commenting on his heads up opponent, Shelley said: “I respect him a lot. To me, he is one of the best British players. Of all the players at the table, he was by far the best — by a country mile. I said to myself that if I got heads up that I did not want it to be against him. And sure enough, we ended heads up and he was going for back-to-back titles. And he had the chip lead on me. But somehow I managed to win.”
