A Chinese player shocked the entire world when he refused a $4,444 jackpot win from JackpotCity.com.
Mr.C. was playing the WowPot slot, when he realized he had won the jackpot. The man was initially delighted of his win, but later he became concerned and suspicious and refused the money. JackpotCity online casino found itself in the unusual position of trying to convince the man to accept the money.
The player admitted he was very concerned on the significance of the unusual amount. In the Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultures, the number 4 is considered unlucky. They also say number four is pronounced like the word for death.
The $4,444 jackpot winner contacted the customer support staff and explained them his fears.

“According to Chinese culture, the number four is pronounced like the word for death and is considered as a very unlucky number. We're still talking to the player and working out the best approach to handle this, which is sensitive to the player's beliefs and concerns, but ensures that he does not lose out on his winnings,” Terry Maverick added.
