A man claiming to have a bomb around his chest entered the Arizona Charlie’s Boulder Hotel & Casino, located in southeast Las Vegas, and went straight to the security staff. He lifted his shirt in front of the security staff and revealed what appeared to be an explosive device, ordering the evacuation of all 301 hotel rooms and casino.
“You’ve got five minutes to evacuate Arizona Charlie’s before I blow this thing up,” said the suspect to the security staff. Luckily, the man was convinced to leave the casino, but he remained in the proximity of Arizona Charlie's hotel outside the building. The hotel, the casino and nearby areas were immediately evacuated.
Describing the incident, Sgt. John Sheahan said the man seemed very preoccupied of persuading the armed officers to shoot him, saying: “Shoot me, or I'm going to blow this thing up”.
The police thinks the suspect did not intend to hurt anyone but himself. Moreover, the police even said the man was trying to commit “suicide by cop”.
The terrible incident took place around 9.30 a.m. on the 4th of September and lasted until 11.45 a.m., when the SWAT squad Armor Unit and Las Vegas bomb squad finally convinced him to give up his plans. The device around his chest was discovered to be a fake.
