Bwin CEO Thinks PokerStars and Full Tilt Are “Operating Illegally” in US
added on 2010-08-20 05:21:03

Bwin CEO's Norbert Teufelberger and Manfred Bodner said in an interview given to EGR Magazine that the online poker giants PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are “operating illegal” on the US market.

They think the only reason that PokerStars and Full Tilt are the first two online poker giants in the world, is because Bwin, the world's third strongest company, decided to pull out of the US market in 2006.
“We pulled out, they didn’t. But we’ll see who was right in the end. We still believe we were correct and it’s pretty clear cut... It’s not because they have premier marketing skills or premier technology, what they have is hundreds of millions of dollars from what we see as an illegal market. We would expect that once the US regulates, these two companies will not have access to the market, and once that happens we’ll then see who the leader will be. They say they’re not operating illegally, but I think they are,” Teufelberger said.

Teufelberger thinks that when the US market regulates, PokerStars and Bwin will no longer have access to the market and Bwin will become the true leader in the gaming industry. He also said that he knows how strict the US authorities are in their licensing process and he cannot imagine that a company operating illegally to qualify for a licence.

However, he did mention that, if PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker were granted licences, then Bwin's pulling out of the US market would have been “the biggest mistake Manfred and I ever made”.
