Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez may face a $40 million lawsuit for cancelling a show at the opening of Cratos Premium Hotel and Casino complex in Cyprus. The show was set to take place on the 24th of July, on the 36th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and Jennifer's 41st birthday.
Last week Lopez' spokesperson announced that the singer would not perform in Cyprus because of “sensitivity to the political realities of the region.” The chief executive of the Turkish company that runs the hotel and casino threatened to drag the pop star actress J. Lo to court and claiming up to $40 million damages.
“The contract has not been terminated. If she does not show up for the concert, we will begin a procedure in the courts to claim 35-40 million dollars in damages. The cancellation ... is not covered by any clause in the contract she signed with us,” said CEO Murat Bozogle.
Murat Bozogle also said J. Lo still has time to change her mind about the show and that the $220 million resort’s image has suffered severe damage from the politically motivated nature of Lopez’s cancellation.
“This whole situation makes me so sad. (…) The statement that was issued by my representatives was done without my knowledge or consent. It is my personal policy not to comment on political issues between countries. I love my fans all over the world. I want to sincerely apologize if anyone was hurt or offended in any way. Again, I am truly sorry,” said Jennifer Lopez in a message posted on her personal website.
