The 21 year-old Norwegian poker player, Annette Obrestad, has recently appeared in an interview on ESPN. When she was asked about the role of her fellow females in the poker industry, she answered:
“It’s easy money… I’ve always said that girls suck at poker. I say that because they do. Maybe they just aren’t as competitive and don’t try to learn from their mistakes.”
And she didn't stop here. In the same interview, she also fired a few shots across the biggest legend in poker, Doyle Brunson, by saying: “Online players process information so much faster and don’t let their egos get in the way of becoming a better player. No disrespect to Doyle, but I’d rather play him,” and implying he had an "ego" and she could beat him easily.
I wonder what Annie Duke, Vanessa Russo, Liv Boeree, Kathy Liebert, or many other famous female poker players would answer to Annette's comments. Did Annette include herself in this statement?
I don't think she fully realized the gravity of her words, since she forgot she is a woman too, and that Doyle Brunson, the “godfather of poker”, has played professionally for over 50 years!
The 76 year-old poker pro has cordially extended an invitation to the young female player by saying: “By the way, I’m at Bobby’s Room almost every day if she really wants to play.”
