We do not know many celebrities who would refuse a 75 million dollars advertising contract!! However, this was exactly what the famous golf player, Tiger Woods, did a couple of days ago.
Tiger Woods refused a $75 million contract over a five year period offered by the Irish bookmaker Paddy Poker. However, the company did not pronounce their last offer and announced they would soon return with a more substantial offer.
“Paddy Power remains keen to work with Tiger Woods and will reengage with IMG. An enhanced offer will be made, the details of which will remain confidential,” the company said in a statement.
Tiger Woods built his fortune by selling his image to different companies and this has brought him lots of money.
Paddy Power, the largest and the most popular Irish gambling operator, offered him the chance to win $75 million for being their company's image. Tiger Woods declined the proposition without making any comments.
Despite the subsequent withdrawal of sponsorship deals from companies such as Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, Buick and Gillette because of Woods’ infidelity scandals, the world’s richest athlete declined Paddy' Poker sponsorship opportunity.
Before Woods’ last infidelity incident, he earned over $100 million each year from sponsorships – more than any other athlete.
“At this stage, when other sponsors seem to be ditching him, there’s an opportunity there to step in. He’s still somebody we would very much like to align ourselves to,” the company added.
Paddy Power is the largest and the most popular Irish gambling operator. In 2009 Paddy Power invested with over €10 million more on advertising than it did the year before.
